As per the latest government regulations, WCED, DBE and ISASA, mask-wearing remains in place in schools when inside. This excludes Grades 00 and 0 as they are under the age of 6. A reminder to please notify the school if your daughter tests positive. The isolation period remains at 7 days from the day of a positive test.
Whilst we encourage and appreciate the communication from parents to all our staff, we do ask that Whatsapp messages to teachers be within reasonable hours, not before 06.00 and not after 18.00, unless in the case of an emergency. Emails are read and answered by staff as soon as possible, but please respect that staff are often busy with various tasks and families of their own and cannot always answer immediately.
Please ensure that you have downloaded the Edana app as our communication is available on there.
A reminder to please return the completed form to the class teacher in a sealed envelope with the correct cash amount by Monday 9 May 2022. Parents are invited to an informative assembly talk at 08:15 on Tuesday 10 May.
In addition to notifying reception when your daughter is sick, please also contact the music teacher if your daughter has a lesson that day. This will assist music teachers who come into school, especially for specific classes.
Kayla Howie, a Micklefield Past Pupil and third-year UCT fine art student, is doing a group project to cultivate awareness around recycling and the dangers of plastic waste. They will be creating an installation/ performative artwork (made of plastic bags) on UCT upper campus to engage with students. In support of this initiative, girls are asked to please bring any unwanted plastic bags to school by Monday 9 May.
We have noticed that many of the girls from Grade 1 – 7 are arriving after 07.55 which means they are late for school. The first lesson starts at 07.55 and it is very disruptive for the teacher and other pupils when a child arrives late. The school is officially open from 07.15 so please ensure that your daughters are on time.
The winter sport/extra-mural programme is available on the Edana App under Documentation, Sport/Extra-murals.
Fixture lists for both hockey and netball are also available on the Adana App under Documents, Sport/Extra-Murals. Please note that each week all the information and team lists for that particular week will be sent out after the practices for the matches taking place that week.
When attending sport matches, please can spectators support the teams as a whole, Micklefield, and not call out individual players’ names as it is very distracting for the players who need to hear and follow the instructions from their coach. Please be mindful of your behaviour on the side of the field. Sportsmanship is of utmost importance, both on and off the field.
All players must have their fleece or tracksuit top to put on after practice and match. This is common policy for all sports people as the body temperature is raised during practice or match and in order to prevent our players from getting sick, it is best practice to put on a top after exercise. Please support us and ensure that your daughter has her clearly marked fleece or tracksuit top at these events.
A reminder that no jewellery may be worn to school, at sports practices or matches other than plain stud earings. Please ensure that your daughter’s hair is tied back with clips or an alice band when playing any sport.
Our girls need to build resilience, both on and off the field in order to improve our standard of play in both netball and hockey. Practices are spent doing skills and game time, but there is not enough ‘buy in’ from all the girls so please encourage grit and determination so that we can compete to our full potential. Our fitness is also an area of concern as we only have one session of compulsory cross country and our girls are finding it tough to keep up at match pace.

U13A Netball Tournament – Friday,20 May and Sat, 21 May
Unfortunately our girls will not be participating in this netball tournament as it clashes with the full technical rehearsal for the Grade 7 drama production.
Ava Pattenden (Grade 4) and her family have very kindly donated a swimming mascot to the school. The idea came to mind when Ava’s mom noticed a number of schools with mascots at the Inter-Schools gala earlier this year. We would like to name our new member of the Micklefield family so we will be holding a competition to choose a name for our penguin. Girls can hand into reception their name of choice for the penguin with their own name and grade alongside. Entries are to be in by Monday 9th May.
Thank to our brilliant pianists for their beautiful performances in assembly: Amani Shaik, Hannah Pearson, Liya Majal and Leilah Joseph.
Grade 5 enjoyed learning about the properties of metals, and how it is a good conductor of electricity ⚡️
